Title 22 BUILDINGS AND CONSTRUCTION
Chapter 22.02 BUILDING ADMINISTRATIVE CODE OF CLARK COUNTY
22.02.075 Alternate materials and methods of construction.
The provisions of the technical codes are not intended to prevent
the use of any material, design, or method of construction not specifically
prescribed by the technical codes, provided such alternative has been approved
by the building official. An alternative material, design or method of
construction may be approved, provided the building official finds the proposed
alternate is satisfactory and complies with the intent of the technical codes
and the proposed alternate is, at least, equivalent to that prescribed by the
technical codes in suitability, strength, effectiveness, fire resistance,
durability, performance, safety and sanitation.
The building official shall
require that sufficient evidence of proof be provided to substantiate any claims
made. The building official may require that evidence or proof be submitted for
review by the combined board of building appeals prior to an approval. Record of
any action granting approval of an alternate shall be kept by the department of
development services as required by law.
The International Code Council
Performance Code for Buildings and Facilities may be referenced as a guide for
using alternate methods and materials.
Alternates are Project-Specific.
Approval of an alternate for one project does not constitute approval of the
alternate for any other project. Approval of an alternate is not a modification
of the adopted codes and standards. (Ord. 3618 § 2 (part), 2008)
