Chapter 8.20 LIQUOR LICENSE REGULATIONS
8.20.020.425 Wine, beer, cordial and liqueur tasting license.
A “wine, beer, cordial and liqueur tasting license”
permits the free distribution of samples of packaged wines, beer, cordials and
liqueurs sold at retail. The sample of wine, beer, cordial and/or liqueur may
not exceed one-half ounce per drink. Wine, beer, cordial and liqueur tasting
authorized by this license shall only take place within the following
businesses:
(a) A liquor store operating in conjunction with a package
liquor license may distribute free samples of wine, beer, cordial and liqueur
and shall only be offered to the public for educational purposes relating to
such tasting. All such wine, beer, cordial and liqueur tasting must be done
under the supervision of an employee of the liquor store who holds a valid work
card and has successfully completed an approved liquor server awareness training
program. Bottles of wine, beer, cordial and liqueur opened for tasting shall not
be sold, distributed, or otherwise given away; and
(b) A grocery store
licensed for the sale of package liquor and/or package beer wine and spirit
based products may distribute free samples of alcoholic liquor to persons
twenty-one years of age and older provided that:
(1) The grocery store
licensee submits a written request to the department of business license for a
grocery store alcohol sampling permit that contains the following
information:
(i) Name of the business;
(ii) Name of the
licensee;
(iii) Name of all key employees at the
business;
(iv) Times and location within the store where the samples will
be distributed;
(v) Days of the week and times each day when the samples
will be distributed; and
(vi) Pursuant to Chapter 597 of the Nevada
Revised Statutes there is no fee associated with this permit;
(2) Licensees
must renew their permits annually, at no cost, by submitting a written request
to the department prior to the expiration of the original permit;
(3) It
shall be unlawful for any person to distribute samples of alcoholic liquor
without first obtaining alcohol awareness training pursuant to this
chapter;
(4) A key employee found suitable by the board for such position
at the business must be on the store premises at all times that samples are
distributed;
(5) All persons involved in the distribution of alcoholic
liquor samples must be listed on the master list of employees maintained by the
licensee pursuant to this title. (Ord. L-233-06 § 10, 2006: Ord.
